The ″Hello, Spring!″ event took place Feb. 6 at the Beach Club.

Gail Mazzei was chairwoman for the afternoon, which, in addition to lunch, included a social hour, video presentations of the patients at the organization’s day care centers, and the tribute to Miller.

Miller, founder of the Palm Beach Ballet Center, was recognized for her more than six decades of training young dancers. She was stricken with Alzheimer’s more than six years ago and the Palm Beach Ballet Center closed its doors. She had no family to help her, so a former student, Carissa Kranz, stepped forward to assume the responsibility of caring for her. Kranz credits the programs of Alzheimer’s Community Care for ensuring that “Miss Joan” stays in the community with dignity and safety.

Tracey McPhillips was co-chairwoman of the luncheon, which was emceed by Mike McGann.

Herme de Wyman Miro was honorary chairwoman.

More than 150 people attended.

Proceeds from the luncheon help Alzheimer’s Community Care to provide services and resources to Alzheimer’s patients and their family caregivers across Palm Beach County, including eight specialized Alzheimer’s Day Care Centers, an ID locator Program, and dementia-trained Family Nurse Consultants to help families navigate the disease.
